Heavy Rain Warning: Northern Taiwan Work and School Decisions

Date:

Authorities in northern Taiwan are monitoring heavy rain warning conditions that could affect millions of residents. Taipei, New Taipei City, Keelung, and Taoyuan announced they will decide at 8 p.m. whether to cancel work and school tomorrow.

Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang said officials aim to issue a joint decision unless unexpected circumstances arise. Residents are urged to stay alert and prepare for flooding or traffic disruptions.

The Central Weather Administration forecasts Keelung will receive 300mm to 490mm of rain from 2 p.m. today through 2 p.m. tomorrow. If rain totals exceed 350mm in 24 hours in mountainous or low-elevation areas, local regulations allow authorities to suspend school and work.

City governments are coordinating closely to ensure public safety. Emergency response teams are on standby to address potential flooding and landslides. Citizens are advised to avoid rivers and low-lying areas and follow local government updates.

Schools and workplaces are reviewing contingency plans. Parents and commuters are preparing for possible closures and transportation interruptions. Local businesses are also considering flexible schedules to accommodate weather-related disruptions.

Experts warn that northern Taiwan may face travel hazards, including blocked roads, waterlogged streets, and delayed public transport. The heavy rain warning highlights the importance of early preparation and adherence to government advisories.

Officials will communicate their decision promptly at 8 p.m., providing clarity for residents and organizations across the four northern cities. Public awareness campaigns encourage everyone to take the heavy rain warning seriously and prioritize safety.

The upcoming decision will guide schools, businesses, and residents through the forecasted severe weather. Authorities emphasize that adherence to safety measures is crucial during this period of heavy rainfall.
