Beijing’s Daxing district is accelerating its economic transformation, with total industrial output projected to reach 100 billion yuan ($14 billion) this year. Daxing growth reflects the area’s shift from traditional agriculture toward high-tech, innovation-driven development.
District director Liu Yang highlighted six industrial clusters that drive Daxing growth. These clusters include the airport economic zone, a biopharmaceutical production base, a digital economy demonstration area, an international hydrogen energy demonstration zone, a China-Japan innovation cooperation zone, and a commercial space industry base.
Since opening six years ago, Beijing Daxing International Airport has handled nearly 200 million passengers and more than 1.5 million flights. The airport continues to catalyze local economic expansion and international connectivity.
The airport economic zone has developed 1.2 million square meters of industrial facilities and attracted 8,400 companies. Of these, 375 operate as foreign-invested enterprises, further driving Daxing growth and global business integration.
Liu Yang emphasized that these developments represent a fundamental transformation of Daxing’s economic landscape. “We are moving from an agriculture-based district to a hub of high-tech innovation and international business,” Liu said.
Analysts note that the district’s strategy aligns with Beijing’s broader urban and economic planning. By fostering high-tech industries and international cooperation, Daxing strengthens its role in the region’s industrial and commercial ecosystem.
The biopharmaceutical and digital economy sectors will create jobs and drive technological advancement. Meanwhile, the hydrogen energy and commercial space clusters position the district as a leader in emerging industries.
Officials also highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, logistics, and industrial support services to sustain growth. The district plans to continue attracting foreign and domestic investors while integrating advanced technologies into local manufacturing.
Daxing growth is projected to maintain momentum in the coming years, with the airport and industrial zones actively driving expansion. Policymakers and business leaders focus on innovation, sustainability, and global cooperation as key priorities.
