Bai Family Gang Sentenced to Death in China’s Major Crackdown

Date:

The Bai family gang has faced its final reckoning in one of China’s largest organized crime trials in recent years. On Tuesday, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court in Guangdong Province sentenced five of its members to death, marking a major victory in China’s crackdown on cross-border criminal networks.

According to court findings, the Bai family gang built a vast criminal empire across China and Myanmar’s Kokang region. The network operated 41 compounds, exploiting its family influence and armed protection to engage in widespread illicit activities. These crimes included large-scale telecommunications fraud, illegal gambling, kidnapping, and homicide.

The court sentenced Bai Suocheng, Bai Yingcang, Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojiang, and Chen Guangyi to death. Meanwhile, two others, Li Fushou and Li Zhide, received death sentences with two-year reprieves. Several others, including Guo Jianzheng and Pan Xian, received life imprisonment, while the remaining defendants were sentenced to prison terms between three and twenty years.

Authorities revealed that the group’s operations generated over 29 billion yuan, equivalent to around 4.1 billion US dollars. Their actions caused the deaths of six Chinese nationals and left several others injured. The group also conspired to traffic and produce 11 tons of methamphetamine, further exposing the extent of its reach.

The Bai family gang maintained power by combining its armed influence with illegal business ventures. Members recruited funders and partners to invest in fraudulent operations, all under armed protection. Investigators said this fusion of violence and financial crime made the group especially dangerous.

Legal experts view this case as a significant milestone in China’s efforts to dismantle transnational criminal organizations. The verdict demonstrates the government’s commitment to pursue justice regardless of influence or connections.

Officials stressed that the sentences reflect the severity of the crimes and the extensive harm caused to society. The crackdown on the Bai family gang also signals China’s resolve to combat telecom fraud and drug trafficking at their roots.

Authorities plan to expand cooperation with neighboring countries to prevent similar operations from resurfacing. The government emphasized that such cases highlight the importance of regional security and stricter border enforcement in the years ahead.
