Autumn Holiday Tourism Boosts Family Travel Across China

Date:

Autumn holiday tourism is surging in multiple Chinese provinces as primary and secondary schools observe their first statutory autumn breaks. Regions including Zhejiang and Sichuan have reported sharp increases in visitors to major scenic areas. Local authorities have begun implementing crowd-control measures as tourist numbers approached or reached full capacity.

In Zhejiang Province, many students are starting their first autumn break this November, according to provincial education authorities. Meanwhile, Sichuan students had their autumn break from November 12 to 14, prompting a significant increase in travel to popular destinations.

Scenic areas in Sichuan, including Xiling Snow Mountain, issued visitor capacity notices, advising tourists without bookings not to visit. Staff reported that tickets sold out quickly as the site neared maximum capacity. Similarly, the Siguniang Mountain scenic area recommended visitors explore nearby attractions when tickets were no longer available.

In Zhejiang, Shenxianju scenic area reached capacity for Sunday, prompting closure of both online and on-site ticketing. Staff emphasized that visitor flow control measures are standard practice and activated once reservations or daily visitor numbers reach capacity. Approximately half of the visiting groups consisted of parents with children, reflecting the family-focused nature of the autumn holiday tourism surge.

Data from Chengdu and surrounding areas indicate significant growth, with ticket bookings during the autumn holiday 3.4 times higher than the same period last year and 1.4 times higher than the previous five days. Online travel platforms also showed tourism bookings in Zhejiang doubled year-on-year starting November 12. Family trips with children accounted for 46 percent of bookings, while popular destinations included Beijing, Shanghai, and Sanya.

Experts note that autumn holiday tourism not only stimulates local economies but also encourages family engagement and cultural exploration. Authorities and tourism operators are emphasizing advance reservations, timed entries, and visitor flow control to ensure safety and a positive travel experience.

Looking ahead, provinces plan to continue monitoring tourist volumes and adjusting crowd management policies during future statutory breaks. The autumn holiday tourism surge highlights the growing influence of family-oriented travel and its significant impact on regional tourism development.

Autumn holiday tourism demonstrates how statutory school breaks can transform travel patterns and boost local economies across China.
