EV Charging Infrastructure Expands Rapidly in China

Date:

China’s EV charging infrastructure surpassed 18.64 million units by the end of October 2025. This marks a 54 percent increase from last year, showing strong growth in support of electric vehicles nationwide.

The National Energy Administration reported 4.53 million public charging units and over 14.11 million private chargers. Public charging rose 39.5 percent, while private charging jumped 59.4 percent, reflecting growing adoption by households and businesses.

Public EV chargers have a combined rated power of roughly 203 million kilowatts. On average, each facility provides about 44.69 kilowatts. Experts say expanding EV charging infrastructure is essential to meet rising demand and support China’s green energy transition.

Earlier this month, China announced a three-year plan to expand EV charging infrastructure. The government aims to establish 28 million charging facilities by 2027. Public charging capacity is expected to exceed 300 million kilowatts.

The plan will improve accessibility, efficiency, and coverage in cities and rural areas. Industry experts emphasize that EV charging infrastructure will reduce range anxiety and encourage electric vehicle adoption.

A leading energy analyst said, “The rapid growth of EV charging infrastructure is crucial for China to lead the global EV market.”

Private companies and state-owned operators will invest in high-capacity stations along highways and urban centers. Officials will implement standards to ensure interoperability and smart grid integration to optimize energy use.

The expansion of EV charging infrastructure will also create jobs and stimulate related industries, including battery production. Analysts expect EV adoption and infrastructure growth to continue sharply over the next five years.
