Expanding Trade Ties Strengthen Mongolia–Indonesia Cooperation

Date:

Mongolia and Indonesia organized their first joint business forum in Ulaanbaatar, where expanding trade ties shaped the main agenda. Delegates from both nations gathered to exchange practical ideas that could support long-term commercial growth. The event brought together more than forty representatives who aimed to identify fresh opportunities across diverse economic sectors.

Organizers from the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry coordinated closely with the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing to ensure productive discussions. They invited officials from several Mongolian government agencies to explain the country’s evolving business environment and investment climate. Attendees examined prospects in mining, agriculture, tourism, pharmaceuticals, education, and other strategically important areas. They emphasized that the two economies complement each other in ways that could generate sustainable cooperation.

Trade between the countries has continued rising over recent years, demonstrating a clear shift toward broader engagement. Mongolia currently sends fluorspar and wool-based materials to Indonesia while receiving machinery, palm oil, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, and industrial equipment. Participants reviewed these figures carefully and explored solutions that might support a more balanced commercial exchange.

MNCCI President Lkhagvajav Baatarjav pointed to nearly seven decades of diplomatic relations that now provide a strong basis for deeper collaboration. He explained that Mongolia holds significant potential in mining, agriculture, tourism, energy, and technological development. Indonesia, meanwhile, continues leading its region in innovation, investment, and large-scale manufacturing capacity. He stated that new partnerships could emerge if businesses focus on shared goals and expanding trade ties.

Indonesia’s non-resident ambassador to Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun, stressed that the meeting offered a valuable bridge between the two business communities. He expressed optimism that discussions launched this year could yield measurable achievements by the seventieth anniversary of diplomatic relations. Growing online interest in Mongolia among younger Indonesians encouraged him to believe tourism numbers may increase next year. A new direct flight linking Mongolia and Singapore may also support stronger regional movement and commercial exchanges.

MNCCI Secretary General Saruul Bulgan encouraged stakeholders to pursue halal meat certification so Mongolia can access Indonesia’s large consumer market. She underscored the importance of improving standards that would allow Mongolian producers to meet specific health and hygiene requirements. Additional conversations focused on opportunities in mining exploration, green energy development, and joint investment initiatives. She also noted the importance of establishing fairer trade flows, since Mongolian exports remain far smaller than imports.

Forum participants concluded the gathering by reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation through sustained communication and practical joint projects. They agreed that continued momentum would help transform promising ideas into concrete outcomes that support expanding trade ties.
