Mongolia hosted the inaugural Trade and Investment forum in Ulaanbaatar this week to strengthen ties with Indonesia. The event brought together more than 40 business delegates and government officials. They explored collaboration in sectors such as mining, agriculture, education, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. Trade and Investment discussions focused on creating sustainable partnerships and new business opportunities.
The forum, organized by the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) with the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, featured presentations on Mongolia’s economic environment. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Investment and Trade Agency provided insights. Delegates discussed strategies to expand bilateral trade and investment in emerging industries.
Bilateral trade has grown in recent years, reaching USD 51.1 million in 2024 and USD 36.11 million in the first half of 2025. Mongolia mainly exports fluorspar and wool yarn, while Indonesia supplies machinery, consumer goods, palm oil, and pharmaceuticals. Officials highlighted opportunities for diversification and long-term collaboration.
MNCCI President Lkhagvajav Baatarjav noted Mongolia’s resource potential and Indonesia’s leadership in technology and investment. He emphasized that both countries occupy strategic positions in their regions. Moreover, he pointed out opportunities from halal food production, logistics, tourism, and technology cooperation. Trade and Investment can unlock these opportunities with coordinated efforts.
Non-resident Indonesian Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun stressed that the forum will strengthen business connections ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He also mentioned rising Indonesian interest in Mongolia and opportunities for halal meat exports, pharmaceuticals, and fruit products. The new direct flight from Mongolia to Singapore could further boost trade and tourism.
MNCCI Secretary General Saruul Bulgan highlighted the importance of regulatory compliance and certification for exports. He added that Mongolia’s embassy in Jakarta strengthens coordination. Trade and Investment initiatives will focus on professional cooperation and market access for Mongolia’s 280 million potential consumers.
Overall, the Trade and Investment forum demonstrated strong commitment from both countries to economic cooperation. Officials expect sustained engagement to increase trade volumes, foster sectoral partnerships, and build long-term business relations.
