Mongolia and Slovenia Discuss Expanded Cooperation at OSCE Meeting

Date:

Mongolia and Slovenia reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna. The discussion took place between Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh and Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon on December 4-5.

Officials described the talks as constructive and forward-looking, reflecting growing momentum in bilateral engagement. Both sides emphasized the value of continued diplomatic dialogue and the need to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Minister Battsetseg highlighted that relations between Mongolia and Slovenia have strengthened in recent years, especially following the State Visit of Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar to Mongolia in August 2024. She said both governments now aim to build on that progress with practical follow-through and targeted cooperation programs.

Minister Fajon noted that Slovenia views Mongolia as an emerging partner in Central and Northeast Asia. She expressed support for increasing collaboration in fields including trade, forestry, investment, and higher education. According to Slovenian officials, the two countries also plan to identify new areas for joint economic and environmental initiatives.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of sustained high-level exchanges to maintain diplomatic momentum. They also discussed increased collaboration in multilateral frameworks, including potential cooperation within organizations focusing on security, development, and environmental governance.

Analysts say the meeting reflects a broader shift in Mongolia’s foreign policy, which seeks diversified international partnerships beyond traditional regional actors. Meanwhile, Slovenia continues expanding its engagement in Asia as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen global diplomatic and economic ties.

The two governments expect working-level teams to outline concrete follow-up actions in the coming months. Future cooperation may include official delegations, expanded academic exchange programs, and sector-specific agreements.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence in continued diplomatic progress and acknowledging shared interest in long-term cooperation.
