North Korea-Russia defense treaty boosts Eurasian peace

Date:

North Korea highlighted the North Korea-Russia defense treaty on Thursday, calling it a crucial guarantee for peace across Eurasia. This statement came as the country prepared to mark the sixth anniversary of Kim Jong-un’s first summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, shared a detailed message. The article appeared just one day before the April 25 anniversary of the 2019 summit in Vladivostok. That meeting marked the beginning of closer cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.

Since that first summit, North Korea and Russia have grown closer through shared strategic goals. Their relationship deepened significantly after the two leaders signed a North Korea-Russia defense treaty in June last year. The treaty paved the way for North Korea to send military support to Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.

According to the Rodong Sinmun, the North Korea-Russia defense treaty plays a key role in maintaining Eurasian peace and regional stability. The newspaper also claimed the partnership had reached a new high under Kim Jong-un’s direct guidance.

It described the initial Kim-Putin summit as a turning point in bilateral ties. North Korea credited the meeting with laying the foundation for future cooperation. It also called the event groundbreaking, saying it responded to the demands of a changing global environment.

The North Korea-Russia defense treaty was labeled by North Korean officials as a cornerstone of mutual trust and cooperation. Officials in Pyongyang believe the agreement secures peace and offers protection against hostile international actions.

Furthermore, the article claimed the treaty helps both nations build a shared vision for a new world. North Korea stressed its intention to work with Russia against external pressure and interference.

As the anniversary of the first summit approaches, Pyongyang has placed greater emphasis on its growing alliance with Moscow. The North Korea-Russia defense treaty continues to serve as a symbol of unity and strategic alignment between the two nations.
