Cashmere industry boost has transformed Mongolia’s wool and cashmere processing sector. Specifically, President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa visited Mogol Wool LLC in Tuv aimag to see operations under the White Gold program. The company has operated in wool and cashmere processing since 1995. To date, the facility can wash 5,000 tonnes of raw wool and cashmere annually. It can also comb 150 to 200 tonnes each year. Additionally, the company produces 150 to 300 tons of yarn and manufactures 30,000 to 50,000 sewn products.
Company director Erdenebat Ch. explained the impact of program funding, Mogol Wool received an MNT 11.3 billion concessional loan through the White Gold program. The company used these funds to upgrade equipment and expand production capacity. It also created new jobs for local workers. In 2025, the company installed 10 to 14 types of new machinery. Consequently, these additions improved its spinning and sewing facilities significantly.
Company executives and industry representatives noted the program’s broader contributions. The White Gold program has significantly developed wool, cashmere, leather, and light industries. It has also improved the livelihoods of herders across Mongolia. The representatives emphasized the need to continue the program. They called for government procurement to support local businesses. Furthermore, investing in engineering and technological education remains essential. Training skilled workers will help maintain momentum.
The White Gold program has provided substantial financial support to the sector. For instance, loans totaling MNT 508 billion have gone to 103 enterprises. These businesses operate in wool, cashmere, and leather processing. The results have been dramatic across multiple metrics. Cashmere spinning capacity increased by 400 tonnes to reach 20,000 tonnes. Moreover, exports of combed cashmere rose to USD 330 million. This represents a 4.7 times increase compared to 2024 levels. Wool yarn production capacity has also expanded significantly. Knitting, weaving, and finishing capabilities have grown as well.
The Office of the President of Mongolia announced future funding plans. This year, concessional loans worth MNT 350 billion will distribute through nine commercial banks. The program aims to sustain the momentum achieved in recent years. Industry observers credit the White Gold program with revitalizing a traditionally underfunded sector. Cashmere represents a major non-mining export opportunity for Mongolia. Thus, the program’s success could serve as a model for other industries. President Khurelsukh’s visit to Mogol Wool underscores the government’s commitment. Continued investment will determine whether this growth proves sustainable.
