Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun spoke at a regular press conference on Tuesday. He described the State Department’s 2026 Hong Kong report as replete with lies and fallacies. The document makes irresponsible remarks about Hong Kong affairs. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to its contents. Furthermore, Beijing has lodged solemn representations with the US side.
Since Hong Kong’s return, the Chinese government has consistently implemented one country, two systems principles. It also upholds Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong with a high degree of autonomy. The Law on Safeguarding National Security in the HKSAR has been enacted. The Safeguarding National Security Ordinance has also taken effect. These laws better protect the lawful rights of Hong Kong residents. They also promote Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability effectively. Additionally, they safeguard the international community’s lawful interests in Hong Kong. Therefore, China rejects US Hong Kong report as fundamentally flawed.
The HKSAR’s law enforcement and judicial authorities handle national security cases according to law. This approach is entirely legitimate and leaves no room for unwarranted criticism. Hong Kong is now entering a new stage from stability to prosperity. The spokesperson expressed confidence in this positive trajectory. Under one country, two systems institutional safeguards, Hong Kong will have an even brighter future.
Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong without any ambiguity. Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal matters. The Chinese government’s resolve to safeguard national sovereignty is unwavering. Protecting security and development interests also remains a top priority. Consequently, China rejects US Hong Kong report as an overreach. China urges the US to abide by international law principles. The basic norms governing international relations must also be respected. Washington should immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs. Any form of meddling in China’s internal affairs must cease.
The US State Department released this Hong Kong Policy Act report recently. Previous reports have drawn similar strong condemnations from Chinese authorities. Nevertheless, Washington continues to issue these assessments annually. Bilateral relations have suffered from this recurring tension. Future reports will likely receive the same response from Beijing. China maintains that no external power has any right to comment on Hong Kong. The international community should respect China’s territorial integrity fully. Diplomatic exchanges between both nations may remain strained over this issue. China rejects US Hong Kong report each time with firm consistency.
