Test results confirmed that a staphylococcus aureus outbreak caused a food poisoning incident in Taoyuan earlier this month. The Taoyuan Department of Public Health announced the findings on Wednesday. The outbreak occurred on April 14 at the Neili venue of Shang Yeh Roasted Meat on Rice. The restaurant operates in the city’s Jhongli District.
A total of 155 people reported experiencing nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Among them, 115 individuals sought medical attention after consuming meals. Upon receiving incident reports, the department launched an immediate investigation. Officials collected samples and ordered the shop to suspend operations. The restaurant remains closed until it implements necessary improvements.
Department official Huang Shu hui provided details about the laboratory results. Both lunch box samples and biological specimens from symptomatic people tested positive. The tests confirmed the presence of staphylococcus aureus and its enterotoxins.
The department forwarded the case to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors’ Office. Investigators will examine potential violations of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation. Meanwhile, the Taoyuan Department of Legal Affairs’ consumer protection center offered assistance. The center urged the eatery and its insurance company to expedite refunds and compensation processing. If individual agreements fail, the center will help consumers through formal dispute resolution.
The restaurant issued a public apology on Facebook on April 24. Management expressed the most sincere apologies for the anxiety and inconvenience caused. The establishment set up a dedicated contact window for data registration and compensation claims. Future inspections will likely intensify across similar establishments. The restaurant’s reopening depends on completing corrective measures approved by health authorities. Consumers remain cautious about boxed lunch choices in the Taoyuan area.
