KMT Chairwoman Calls Regional Military Drills Normal During US Peace Tour

Date:

Taiwan’s opposition Chinese Nationalist Party Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun declared that geopolitical military activities remain normal across the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at a Los Angeles news conference on Sunday, the political leader evaluated the upcoming United States-led Rim of the Pacific exercises. The massive biennial maritime drills will officially commerce next week in Hawaii. The event features more than thirty participating global nations. Cheng emphasized that the highly complex security environment naturally causes regional naval forces to execute these major exercises continuously. However, she clarified that her political party will completely refrain from declaring formal military policies until returning to executive power.

The high-profile press event concluded a comprehensive sixteen-day tour across San Francisco, Boston, New York, Washington, and Los Angeles. Branded publicly as a journey for cross-strait peace, Cheng promoted Taiwan as a strategic diplomatic bridge between global superpowers. During her American itinerary, the chairperson repeatedly highlighted her monumental April meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. That historic summit successfully resumed critical party-to-party communications between the Nationalist organization and the Chinese Communist Party. Furthermore, she noted that US President Donald Trump actively wishes to avoid drawing American forces into independent cross-strait conflicts.

Additionally, Cheng argued that historical defense concepts like the first island chain reflect outdated Cold War strategic thinking. Instead, the opposition leader proposed recasting the geographical boundary into a cooperative network centered on regional peace and prosperity. She contended that strong American economic leadership in advanced technology and talent exchanges could easily generate a peaceful financial dividend. To emphasize her anti-war philosophy to overseas communities, she famously remarked that drones should deliver bubble tea instead of missiles. Nevertheless, she explicitly stated that her party maintains unwavering, robust support for maintaining effective domestic national defense capabilities.

Based on these goals, the political organization intends to establish mutual trust mechanisms with mainland authorities. This initiative aims to reduce regional naval maneuvers in the sensitive Taiwan Strait. Cheng firmly believes that pursuing constructive cross-strait dialogue will never compromise Taiwan’s fundamental democratic freedom or defensive resilience. Meanwhile, international defense analysts continue monitoring the upcoming Hawaiian military drills to assess multilateral cooperation against evolving security threats. The department expects regional security frameworks to adjust dynamically as political parties navigate these complex international relationships. Ultimately, these ongoing diplomatic tours show that opposition leaders will continue pursuing alternative paths to preserve long-term regional economic stability.
