Taiwan’s monthly green-collar jobs openings reached nearly 30,000 this year, marking a 10-year record high. The National Environmental Research Academy released these figures in its Green-Collar Talent Employment Report for the first half of 2026. Furthermore, the median monthly salary for green-collar positions reached NT$57,000. Consequently, sustainability roles now offer both strong demand and competitive pay across multiple industries.
Demand for green-collar jobs has tripled over the past decade from approximately 7,700 monthly vacancies in 2017. This year’s figure of 29,733 average monthly openings represents a 16.6 percent annual increase. Additionally, that growth rate far outpaces the overall job market’s 1.2 percent annual rise. On average, 4,299 companies per month are actively recruiting green talent, representing 8 percent of all hiring companies.
Despite strong demand, a significant talent gap persists across Taiwan’s green job market. More than 800,000 job opportunities required green skills, exceeding half of all 1.2 million total openings. However, only around 590,000 active jobseekers with green qualifications applied for those positions. As a result, employers face growing difficulty finding sufficiently qualified candidates for sustainability-focused roles.
Workers with green skills enjoy measurably broader employment opportunities than those without. They average 2.2 suitable job openings compared to 1.5 for non-green skilled candidates. Moreover, among green-skilled workers at listed companies, the top 25 percent earned at least NT$76,000 monthly. Additionally, the interview rate for jobseekers holding a government-issued green-collar certificate runs more than 150 percent higher than average.
Academy director-general Chang Shun-chin attributed the surge to corporate pressure around legal compliance, international competition, and supplier sustainability codes. Furthermore, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment offers dedicated green-collar training programs to help jobseekers enter the sector. Green job openings span diverse fields including software development, engineering, finance, and healthcare. Going forward, the academy plans to continue releasing the report twice yearly to guide fresh graduates and career changers navigating Taiwan’s rapidly expanding green economy.
