South Korea President Concludes State Visit To Mongolia

Date:

President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea concluded his state visit to Mongolia on July 11, 2026. President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa hosted Lee and First Lady Kim Hea Kyung throughout the trip. Notably, this marked the first visit by a South Korean head of state in fifteen years. Consequently, both leaders described the occasion as the start of a new era.

During official talks, the presidents discussed expanding their Strategic Partnership across regional and international platforms. Afterward, they briefed media representatives on the outcomes of their bilateral negotiations. Furthermore, the two leaders attended the opening ceremony of the Mongolia-Korea Business Forum together. This event highlighted growing economic cooperation between the two nations’ business communities.

The sides also issued a Joint Declaration aimed at strengthening their Strategic Partnership further. Since establishing diplomatic relations 36 years ago, ties have steadily evolved through several partnership stages. Specifically, relations began in 2006 as a Good Neighborly, Friendship, and Cooperation Partnership. Later, in 2011, this arrangement upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership between both nations.

Then, in 2021, the relationship reached its current Strategic Partnership status. Throughout the visit, officials signed 21 intergovernmental and inter-organizational cooperation documents across multiple sectors. These agreements covered health, education, environment, agriculture, and information technology initiatives. Additionally, they addressed culture, tourism, transport, logistics, and critical minerals cooperation.

Meanwhile, President Lee and First Lady Kim attended the National Naadam Festival as honored guests. They visited archery and knucklebone shooting pavilions while greeting enthusiastic festival attendees. Foreign Affairs Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh saw off the South Korean delegation at Chinggis Khaan International Airport. This gesture underscored the warmth characterizing the visit’s diplomatic conclusion.

Looking ahead, both nations expect this visit to accelerate cooperation across shared political and economic priorities. Ultimately, the newly signed agreements should translate into tangible benefits for citizens of both countries.
