Mongolian parliamentary official Mandkhai Mendbayar met with a Cambodian delegation to discuss expanding agricultural cooperation. Royal Academy of Cambodia President Sok Touch led this delegation during their recent visit. Consequently, both sides explored opportunities for strengthening ties in sustainable farming practices.
At the meeting’s outset, Chair Mandkhai introduced Mongolia’s newly restructured 126-member parliament to visiting officials. This parliament represents the first structure ensuring multiple political parties gain proper representation nationwide. She noted these changes followed constitutional amendments adopted back in 2023.
Additionally, Mandkhai highlighted Mongolia’s upcoming role hosting the UN’s Conference on Desertification this August. She expressed confidence this conference would spotlight sustainable rangeland management and climate adaptation globally. Furthermore, she emphasized how over one billion people worldwide depend directly on rangeland ecosystems.
Mandkhai also outlined several domestic initiatives supporting Mongolia’s environmental and agricultural cooperation goals nationwide. These include tree-planting campaigns alongside community-based rural development and soil protection programs specifically. Together, these efforts aim to strengthen economic resilience against droughts and worsening desertification trends.
Moreover, Mongolia continues improving legal frameworks designed to reduce pasture degradation across rural regions. These measures specifically protect nomadic animal husbandry traditions central to Mongolia’s cultural heritage. Therefore, policy development remains closely tied to preserving traditional livelihoods alongside environmental sustainability goals.
In response, Sok Touch stressed agriculture’s critical importance within Cambodia’s broader national economy currently. Since agriculture employs most Cambodians, he identified strong potential for deeper agricultural cooperation between both nations. Specifically, he pointed toward crop production, food security and climate adaptation technologies.
Both sides subsequently discussed expanding cooperation around livestock breeding and pastoral animal husbandry practices. Additionally, officials explored ways to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen overall market competitiveness. Ultimately, Mandkhai expressed strong willingness to exchange expertise and build supportive policy frameworks.
Moving forward, this exchange signals growing momentum toward formalized agricultural cooperation between Mongolia and Cambodia. Given shared rural economic challenges, both nations appear positioned for meaningful collaborative development ahead.
