75 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Mongolia and Hungary

Date:

The “75 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Mongolia and Hungary” photo exhibition opened at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum in Ulaanbaatar on April 30, 2025. This exhibition marks a significant milestone, commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Hungary.

The exhibition highlights key moments and events in the history of the two countries’ long-standing ties. Diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Hungary were first established on April 28, 1950. The Embassy of Mongolia in Budapest opened in 1957, further strengthening these relations.

One of the exhibition’s notable features is the story of Wilhelmus Boucher, a French goldsmith. During the Mongol invasion of Hungary in 1241–1242, Boucher was captured in Fehérvár. He was brought to Kharkhorin, the capital of the Great Mongol Empire. Boucher later applied his skills learned in Hungary and France to create the “Silver Tree” in Mongolia.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Veres Gábor, Deputy Director-General of the Ethnographic Museum, presented an Honorary Member Certificate to Academician Chuluun Sampildondov, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. This certificate was issued by the Hungarian Ethnographic Society.

The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Borbála Anna Obrusánszky, Hungary’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mongolia. Batsumberel Natsagdorj, Head of the Mongolia-Hungary Parliamentary Group, was also present, alongside other officials.

This photo exhibition is a collaboration between the Embassy of Hungary in Mongolia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, and the National Archives of Hungary. The exhibition will remain open to the public for one week, offering visitors a chance to explore the shared history of Mongolia and Hungary.
