Taipower Holds Recruitment Exams for New Employees

Date:

Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) recently conducted recruitment exams for new employees across four cities. The exams took place in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien. This year, nearly 12,000 individuals registered, competing for 1,084 positions available at the company. A total of 6,882 candidates showed up to take the written test.

The recruitment process is a two-step procedure, beginning with a written exam. Following this, candidates who pass the first round will move on to the second phase of assessments. Taipower will announce the list of candidates advancing to the second round on July 15. The second round of evaluations will take place on August 5.

Successful candidates who complete one year of training will receive a starting monthly salary of approximately NT$36,000 (around US$1,150). Those working as certified electricians or in power grid maintenance roles may earn a monthly salary of up to NT$40,000. These figures demonstrate Taipower’s commitment to offering competitive compensation.

The recruitment exams come as Taipower faces a wave of retirements within its workforce. The company also looks to support its ongoing transition to net-zero emissions. According to Taipower, the most competitive positions were in power distribution and line maintenance, where 1,800 applicants vied for 489 spots. The accounting category was another highly sought-after area, with 214 applicants for just three positions. Additionally, about 6,000 candidates applied for 108 administrative roles, including 32 positions reserved for individuals with disabilities.

To ensure the integrity of the exams, Taipower collaborated with the National Communications Commission. This partnership helped monitor for abnormal radio signals and detect any unauthorized electronic devices. On-site roles at Taipower require a mix of technical skills and physical strength, so the second round will include physical tests, practical exercises, and oral interviews.

In a similar recruitment effort, Chunghwa Post Co. held its own recruitment exam, with around 12,000 candidates competing for 1,100 positions. Both companies continue to attract significant interest as they expand their teams and adapt to future challenges.
