Mongolian Students Win Seven Medals at APhO 2025

Date:

Mongolian physics excellence reached a new peak at the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2025) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. From May 4 to 12, Mongolia’s eight-member team competed fiercely against students from 30 Asian countries. As a result, they earned one silver medal, six bronze medals, and one honorary mention.

This victory marks Mongolia’s most successful performance in the Olympiad’s history. Over 240 students and 100 educators participated in this year’s event. Despite the difficulty of the problems, the Mongolian team maintained focus and discipline throughout.

Notably, the silver medal is the first ever for Mongolia at this competition. In contrast, last year’s team brought home only two bronze medals and two honorable mentions. Therefore, this year’s results clearly show the country’s rapid academic progress.

The achievement came after months of hard work. Dr. G. Munkhbayar from the National University of Mongolia led the team with great dedication. Likewise, Dr. G. Zorigt from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology co-led with strong academic guidance. Meanwhile, M. Ganbat and M. Otgonbaatar offered hands-on coaching and continuous support.

During the Olympiad, participants solved both theoretical and experimental physics problems. However, the Mongolian students stayed composed under pressure. Consequently, their performance stood out as a strong display of Mongolian physics excellence.

The award ceremony will take place on May 13 in Dhahran. There, students will receive their medals in front of peers and officials.

Looking forward, APhO 2026 will be hosted in Busan, South Korea. Encouraged by this year’s success, Mongolia is already planning ahead. With growing resources and experience, Mongolian physics excellence is expected to shine even brighter next year.
