Power Outage Disrupts Operations at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2

Date:

A sudden power outage hit Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at noon on Wednesday, disrupting several passenger operations. The outage, which occurred at 12:05 p.m., caused immediate issues with check-in counters, baggage handling, and immigration services.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) confirmed that the power interruption lasted for about an hour. Backup power was activated within 8 minutes at 12:13 p.m. However, full power was not restored until 1:13 p.m., which caused continued inconvenience for passengers.

Although some areas, including a few check-in counters and baggage handling stations, continued operating on backup power, many passengers faced delays. They reported that check-in was only completed after full power was restored. As a result, there were concerns about flight delays and possible disruptions to travel plans.

While essential operations, such as check-ins, continued, non-essential areas within Terminal 2 were affected. Dining facilities, flight information boards, and duty-free shopping areas remained in the dark until power was fully restored. Despite this, TIAC confirmed that manual operations for passenger check-in and customs clearance were still possible during the outage.

Crucially, the airport’s flight operations were unaffected. The runway navigation lights, air bridge operations, and tarmac aircraft guidance systems all continued to work normally. There were no disruptions to flight takeoffs or landings.

TIAC issued an apology to passengers for the inconvenience and assured them that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the power failure. The company also emphasized its quick response to ensure minimal disruption to air traffic operations.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges airports face in maintaining smooth operations during unforeseen power disruptions. Despite the brief inconvenience, the airport managed to keep essential functions running.
