30 States Show Support for Taiwan Ties

Date:

In a clear sign of momentum, 30 US states show support for Taiwan ties through new legislative resolutions. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), this growing wave of backing continues to strengthen Taiwan-US relations at the local level. For example, Illinois recently reaffirmed its commitment to Taiwan. Although this is not its first resolution, the state added new goals this time. Lawmakers once again supported the Taiwan Relations Act. In addition, they encouraged businesses to refer to Taiwan by its official name.

Furthermore, the resolution supported a bilateral trade deal between Taiwan and the United States. Lawmakers also promoted a tax agreement to avoid double taxation. This would directly benefit American and Taiwanese businesses alike. Moreover, Illinois urged Taiwan’s inclusion in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity. The resolution even suggested that Illinois open a state office in Taiwan. As a result, this could open new channels for trade, investment, and collaboration.

Not only that, but lawmakers also encouraged high-level visits between officials from both sides. These exchanges would help deepen mutual understanding and cooperation. Ultimately, both regions would gain from these closer ties. The resolution also advocated for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. For instance, Illinois backed Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations, WHO, INTERPOL, and ICAO. In addition, the resolution stressed the importance of accurate global representation.

Specifically, it opposed using UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 to block Taiwan’s role on the world stage. Instead, lawmakers insisted Taiwan must have the right to speak and contribute internationally.Because of this clear position, MOFA praised the Illinois House for its consistent support. It also highlighted the state’s recognition of Taiwan’s global contributions and democratic values.

Meanwhile, 30 US states show support for Taiwan ties with similar legislative efforts. This rising trend reveals unity among many state governments. In fact, many of them called for stronger tax cooperation, economic partnerships, and global recognition for Taiwan.Consequently, MOFA pledged to work more closely with local lawmakers. Taiwan’s representative offices across the US plan to strengthen partnerships in business, education, health, and innovation.

At the same time, the US federal government remains engaged. It has sent official letters urging governors and corporations to expand relations with Taiwan. These efforts align well with the actions taken by individual state legislatures.Currently, 24 US states already operate offices in Taiwan. These outposts promote trade, academic exchange, and shared projects. Therefore, they play a central role in growing this cross-Pacific partnership. In conclusion, as 30 US states show support for Taiwan ties, the relationship continues to expand. With increasing local, state, and federal engagement, Taiwan and the US appear poised for even stronger cooperation.
