BTS Members RM and V Complete Military Service

Date:

BTS members RM and V complete military service as they officially discharged on Tuesday morning in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. After 18 months of service, the two appeared in uniform at a local sports park. RM began by playing the soundtrack from the Japanese anime “Detective Conan” on a saxophone, setting a lighthearted tone. V followed with a bright smile and held a large bouquet.

Both members faced the press and saluted before shouting “Chungseong!” (loyalty) and “Pilseung!” (victory) to celebrate their discharge. RM introduced himself as Sergeant Kim Nam-joon of the 15th Division military band. He expressed relief, saying, “I’m finally out.” He joked that their military term might be one of the shortest in history.

RM also reflected on the experience, stating that the conditions improved significantly over time. While he acknowledged some tough moments, he said service allowed him to appreciate those who protect the country. He added that the time helped him bond with fellow soldiers who had completed their service earlier.

He thanked the BTS fan community, known as Army, for their patience and support during their service. “Now, I’m ready to hit the ground running again as RM of BTS,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who waited and looked after us.”

Following RM’s remarks, V saluted and introduced himself as Sergeant Kim Tae-hyung, honorably discharged. He described his service as a period to reset mentally and physically. V expressed eagerness to reunite with Army fans and promised to deliver an amazing performance soon.

Looking ahead, RM shared excitement about his future plans. “What I want to do most is perform,” he said with a smile. “I’ll work hard on the next album and return to the stage soon. No more going back to base — it’s time to return to the stage.”

Although the discharge ceremony was closed to the public for safety reasons, roughly 100 fans from countries including Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, and Japan gathered at the venue. Supporters displayed large balloons and banners welcoming V and congratulating him on his discharge. Sightseeing buses wrapped in V’s image were parked nearby.

Meanwhile, in Seoul’s Yongsan district, hundreds of fans assembled outside Hybe’s headquarters from early morning. Trucks and buses covered in messages and images of RM and V lined the streets. Many fans wore purple, BTS’ signature color, while waving national flags and photos of the band members.

Fans traveled from around the world to celebrate. Jayna, 28, flew in from the UK. She said, “It feels incredible to be here in Seoul, where BTS grew up and started singing and dancing. You are a massive inspiration.”

Ivory, 24, came from Australia to attend BTS Festa, the group’s annual debut celebration. She planned to attend J-Hope’s concert in Goyang and the military discharge events. “Thank you so much for your hard work,” she said. “I’m so glad you’re back and free to do whatever you want.”

Leilani Santos, an older Army fan also from Australia, said the community’s love remained strong. “We’ve waited a long time, and we’re not going anywhere,” she added.

With RM and V returning, BTS moves closer to full regrouping. Jin and J-Hope completed service last year, while Jimin and Jungkook will finish theirs on Wednesday. Suga will discharge on June 21. Fans worldwide eagerly await the group’s complete reunion and next chapter.
