Typhoons Expected in Taiwan: 3 to 5 Storms Forecast for 2025

Date:

Taiwan is preparing for a typical typhoon season this year, as meteorologists forecast three to five typhoons expected in Taiwan during the second half of 2025. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced this outlook on Friday. According to the agency, this number fits well within the normal range for the island. So far, the Northwest Pacific region has seen only two typhoons this year, which is below the usual average of about 4.3 by this point in the season.

Between June and December, forecasters predict between 21 and 25 typhoons will develop and affect the broader Northwest Pacific region. However, only three to five of those storms are likely to influence Taiwan’s weather. In response, the CWA has launched a new warning system to provide detailed updates on typhoon wind strength specifically for coastal townships. This system aims to help residents better prepare for approaching storms. It also allows local authorities to organize more effective safety and emergency response plans.

The administration encourages the public to stay alert by following typhoon updates through press conferences, live streaming broadcasts, official apps, and various media channels. Forecasters also highlighted two main routes typhoons tend to follow between July and September. One common path moves east to west, crossing the Philippines. The other runs south to north, passing at some distance east of Taiwan. The impact on Taiwan will largely depend on the size and strength of each typhoon.

In addition to the typhoons expected in Taiwan, meteorologists warn that summer temperatures may rise higher than usual. Despite this, rainfall is predicted to remain close to average levels. The CWA will continue to monitor weather developments closely and advises residents to prepare for potential storms. Overall, the number of typhoons expected in Taiwan this year aligns with historical trends. With enhanced warnings and forecasts, the island stands ready to handle the upcoming typhoon season effectively.
