Martial Law Bid Investigation Widens

Date:

The martial law bid investigation into former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s actions continues to gain momentum. On Wednesday, prosecutors summoned two key members of his former Cabinet. Former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun appeared for questioning.

Special counsel Cho Eun-suk leads the martial law bid investigation. She aims to uncover any abuse of power by Yoon. Her team is also investigating Cabinet members who supported or discussed the martial law attempt on December 3.

Han and Ahn walked into the special counsel’s Seoul office without speaking to the press. Their silence fueled more speculation. Investigators believe another martial law document surfaced after Yoon’s initial declaration. Kang Eui-gu, a former presidential secretary, wrote that second document. Han reportedly signed the draft but later asked officials to discard it.

That move raised questions about his initial stance. Investigators want to know why Han changed his position on the document. Ahn’s involvement remains less clear. However, he attended Cabinet meetings during the crisis. Investigators are examining whether he supported or opposed the martial law bid.

Former President Yoon plans to return for more questioning on Saturday. His lawyers say he followed legal procedures during the emergency. They argue he acted to prevent public unrest, not for political gain.

The martial law bid investigation has reached deeper into the former president’s inner circle. Prosecutors will likely summon more former officials next week. Each interview reveals new details about the failed plan.

Cho’s team now focuses on who contributed to drafting or approving martial law orders. They want to trace every key decision. The martial law bid investigation will keep expanding until prosecutors understand the full scope of the attempted declaration.
