China’s Innovation Drive Targets Farming and Healthcare

Date:

China’s innovation drive is gaining momentum as Vice Premier Liu Guozhong urges faster scientific and technological progress in key sectors. During his recent three-day visit to Guangdong province, Liu emphasized the need to push forward with breakthroughs in both agriculture and healthcare. He stressed that innovation must directly address urgent industry demands while supporting national development goals.

In agriculture, Liu called for a sharp focus on critical areas such as the seed industry, advanced farming equipment, forage quality, and modern breeding technologies. He urged local officials and institutions to accelerate the transition from research to practical application, especially in rural areas. Intelligent agriculture should be promoted vigorously, he said, alongside deeper investment in the processing of agricultural products. Liu also emphasized the importance of providing employment support and skill training for people lifted out of poverty and rural workers, helping them secure long-term jobs in evolving industries.

Turning to healthcare, Liu directed attention toward enhancing independent research and development in medicine and medical devices. He encouraged enterprises, hospitals, and academic institutions to focus on cutting-edge technologies and overcome existing bottlenecks. To succeed, he said, China must strengthen the integration of industry, academia, research, and real-world application, ensuring that breakthroughs move from labs into hospitals and clinics as quickly as possible.

Throughout the visit, Liu repeatedly highlighted the role of China’s innovation drive in securing long-term economic resilience and improving public welfare. By aligning scientific research with pressing national priorities, he believes China can not only improve domestic capabilities but also lead in global innovation. He concluded his trip by calling on all sectors to act quickly and decisively, ensuring that innovation delivers practical benefits to the people and supports China’s future growth.
