Taiwan expressed strong support for NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte’s recent comments on China’s military expansion. During a press conference, Rutte warned that China is shifting its military toward combat readiness. Consequently, this change signals growing intentions to invade Taiwan.
Moreover, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Rutte cautioned about possible coordination between China and Russia. He explained that if China invades Taiwan, Russia may create conflicts elsewhere to divide global responses.
In addition, Rutte pointed out that China’s navy is now the world’s largest. He also noted that China’s nuclear arsenal has exceeded 1,000 warheads. Therefore, Rutte urged NATO to increase its defense capabilities. He called for stronger cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners to confront these rising threats effectively.
Since assuming his position, Rutte has frequently warned about Beijing’s aggressive behavior. Furthermore, he remains vocal about the growing danger of China’s military expansion. Additionally, officials in Taiwan stressed the importance of cooperation among like-minded democracies. They emphasized that peace and security in the Indo-Pacific depend on shared values and coordinated efforts.
Taiwan promised to continue working closely with allies to resist coercion and defend regional stability. Consequently, the ministry said this approach helps safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait. They believe that international unity remains the best defense against authoritarian threats. China’s military expansion, therefore, requires joint action and clear communication between partners.
