Mongolia celebrated State Flag Day with a vibrant military parade honoring the State Flag, a key symbol of national sovereignty. This annual event aims to strengthen unity, preserve historical traditions, and inspire patriotism among citizens.
The ceremony began as military and law enforcement officers paid tribute to the State Flag in a grand parade. First, the State Flag and the Flag of the General Staff of the Armed Forces took their place of honor. Then, Minister of Defense Batlut Damba saluted the troops and reported the parade’s readiness to President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief.
As the National Anthem played, the State Flag rose to the top of the flagpole, accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Following this, President Khurelsukh addressed the attendees, including troops, veterans, patriots, and citizens. He emphasized that the State Flag stands for freedom, statehood, and the heroic spirit of the Mongolian people. Moreover, he highlighted the ceremony’s role in fostering patriotism and promoting national pride.
President Khurelsukh also reminded everyone of the importance of protecting Mongolia’s independence. He urged citizens to uphold their rights and freedoms while respecting national traditions, history, and culture.
This year’s parade featured 23 units from the military and law enforcement agencies. Notably, it included troops who recently represented Mongolia at the Moscow Victory Day Parade for the 80th anniversary of World War II’s end. More than 1,400 personnel participated, such as the State Honor Guard, two cavalry units, and the combined brass orchestra from the Ulaanbaatar Military Command.
Additionally, mounted soldiers carried flags representing historic Mongol states, including the Hunnu Empire and the Great Mongol Empire. Brigadier General J. Usukhbayar, the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff, commanded the parade.
Many dignitaries attended the event, including Chairman of the State Great Khural Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav, government officials, diplomats, veterans, citizens, and tourists.
Since 2009, Mongolia has observed State Flag Day every July 10. The State Flag, alongside the Emblem, Banner, Seal, and Anthem, symbolizes Mongolia’s sovereignty and identity. The golden Soyombo on the flag represents eternal prosperity, harmony, and justice for the Mongolian people.
