North Korea Reaffirms Support for Russia in Ukraine Conflict During Lavrov Visit

Date:

North Korea and its relations with Russia have strengthened further as Kim Jong-un pledged full support for Moscow’s actions in Ukraine during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The meeting underscored growing political and military ties between the two countries amid Russia’s ongoing conflict with Kyiv.

Lavrov visited North Korea as part of a series of high-profile trips by senior Moscow officials. These visits aim to deepen cooperation while both nations face mounting pressure from Western countries. During the meeting, Kim assured Lavrov of North Korea’s unwavering backing for Russia’s efforts in Ukraine.

Kim stated Pyongyang is “ready to unconditionally support and encourage all measures” taken by Moscow to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. He also expressed strong confidence in Russia’s eventual victory, praising President Vladimir Putin’s leadership in defending the country’s dignity and interests.

North Korea Russia relations have intensified as Pyongyang reportedly sent thousands of troops to Russia’s Kursk region. In addition, North Korea has supplied artillery shells and missiles to the Russian military, further strengthening their defense cooperation.

The talks between Kim and Lavrov took place in Wonsan, a coastal city recently highlighted by Kim’s ambitious resort development project. Russian officials described the discussions as occurring in a “warm comradely atmosphere,” reflecting the close rapport between the two nations. Lavrov thanked North Korea for its active support in the Kursk region and its assistance to Russian military operations. Both sides agreed that Western nations bear responsibility for escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula.

A video shared by Moscow showed Kim and Lavrov greeting each other with a handshake and hug, symbolizing their strengthened alliance. Analysts see these developments as part of a broader strategy by both countries to counter Western influence.

North Korea Russia relations now include enhanced military cooperation, political alignment, and shared opposition to Western policies. This partnership provides mutual support as both governments navigate sanctions and diplomatic isolation.
