Taiwan has launched a major plan to boost AI adoption in southern Taiwan. The program runs through 2029. It focuses on helping local industries modernize and expand through artificial intelligence. The National Science and Technology Council leads the effort. In addition, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Affairs are collaborating on the plan.
In total, Taiwan will invest over NT$4.5 billion (US$140 million). This year, NT$370 million will support the foodservice and caregiving sectors. From next year onward, NT$1.04 billion will be allocated annually to other industries. These include metal processing, manufacturing, and auto parts.
Importantly, foodservice businesses can get subsidies of up to NT$5 million. With this support, they can upgrade kitchens using AI and automate routine tasks. Moreover, they can use AI to suggest menu items tailored to customer needs. So far, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has approved 11 applicants. For example, Hi-Lai Foods Co. is partnering with Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
Together, they are developing AI tools for food waste reduction and voice reservations. Similarly, Mercuries F&B Co. is working with Soochow University. Their goal is to create an AI ordering platform. Meanwhile, Tainan’s A Sha Restaurant is joining forces with Tainan University of Technology to improve its operations.
Furthermore, the plan includes advanced point-of-sale systems. These will connect with food delivery platforms, manage orders, and reduce human error. As a result, restaurants will operate more efficiently.
The caregiving sector is also seeing transformation. Businesses can get up to NT$5 million to hire staff and buy rehabilitation tools. In addition, AI systems will analyze seniors’ health data and help caregivers deliver better support.
Notably, JiangYu Innovative Medical Technology is launching an AI-powered chronic disease care system. Imedtac Co. will provide muscle and memory training tools to help seniors live independently.
Clearly, AI adoption in southern Taiwan is driving major innovation. The program encourages growth, enhances talent, and supports regional development. With strong government backing, AI adoption in southern Taiwan is set to accelerate.
