Wistron Advances Taipei’s AI Future with New R&D Center in Neihu

Date:

Wistron has officially started construction on a major new project: the Wistron R&D center in Taipei’s Neihu District. The company held a ceremony to mark the groundbreaking on Monday. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the event and highlighted the project’s importance for the city’s future.

According to Chiang, the Wistron R&D center will create around 1,500 jobs once completed. Moreover, he emphasized how this facility will contribute to Taipei’s transformation into an AI-driven smart city. The project will help establish an AI technology corridor linking key science and technology parks across the city.

Mayor Chiang also mentioned that Wistron’s new building comes shortly after Nvidia chose the nearby Beitou-Shilin Science Park for its first overseas headquarters. This creates a natural corridor connecting Neihu with Nangang Biotech Park, further boosting Taipei’s tech ecosystem.

Wistron President and CEO Jeff Lin shared details about the construction timeline and location. He expects the Wistron R&D center to be finished by 2028. The building site sits just one kilometer from Wistron’s new headquarters. It also neighbors their Digital Content Innovation Center, a key BOT project.

The company secured a 60-year lease for a 6,407-square-meter plot in Neihu’s Tanmei area. Plans call for a structure with eight floors above ground and four underground. Lin emphasized that the building will follow eco-friendly and smart building standards.

Financial reports estimate the investment for the Wistron R&D center at approximately NT$2.7 billion (around US$92 million). This large-scale project reflects Wistron’s commitment to innovation and to strengthening Taipei’s position in AI technology.

In summary, the Wistron R&D center aims to generate jobs, promote eco-friendly construction, and support Taipei’s smart city ambitions. With strong backing from city officials and industry leaders, the project represents a significant step forward in Taiwan’s tech landscape.
