Emperor Akihito Diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia Amid Ongoing Heart Treatment

Date:

Emperor Akihito diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia continues to draw public concern over his health condition. The Imperial Household Agency shared the update Friday following his hospital stay in Tokyo.

Doctors at the University of Tokyo Hospital confirmed the diagnosis earlier this week. They found a rapid heartbeat condition in the heart’s upper chambers. This condition, known as supraventricular tachycardia, affects blood circulation and energy levels.

The medical team had hospitalized Akihito on Monday to adjust a new heart medication plan. They monitored his heart rhythm using an electrocardiogram during the entire stay.

The doctors prescribed a medication that also helps manage supraventricular tachycardia symptoms. His aides said this treatment could improve his overall heart condition.

On Friday, Akihito left the hospital by car. Former Empress Michiko, who visited him every day, accompanied him home.

In May, specialists had diagnosed him with myocardial ischemia. This condition limits blood flow to the heart muscle and requires long-term management. Since then, Akihito has taken medication and followed strict health routines.

In 2022, doctors diagnosed him with heart failure. They advised him to limit fluid intake and follow a controlled lifestyle.

Doctors continue to watch his health carefully and make adjustments as needed. His medical team remains optimistic about managing these conditions through close monitoring and tailored care.

The agency hasn’t scheduled any upcoming public appearances for Akihito. They continue to evaluate his condition before making further plans.

Emperor Akihito diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia has renewed national focus on his well-being. His family thanked the public for its concern and support during this time.

Despite health concerns, the former emperor maintains a calm and quiet lifestyle in retirement. His decades of service still inspire respect and gratitude from people across Japan.

Emperor Akihito diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia adds a new challenge to his ongoing treatment. Yet with careful care, his doctors aim to maintain stability and comfort in his daily life.
