Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team Claims Historic Gold Over China

Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team achieved a historic victory at the World University Games on Sunday. They defeated China 3-2 in the thrilling team final held in Germany. This win marks Taiwan’s first-ever gold medal in this event. The team included young talents Feng Yi-hsin, Kao Cheng-jui, and Huang Yen-cheng, all in their early 20s. Feng, 22, played a crucial role by winning both the opening and the deciding matches. His leadership helped Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team overcome China’s long-standing dominance.

Feng said he still feels amazed by the victory. He admitted feeling nervous but gained confidence from his teammates’ cheers. “We focused on playing freely without pressure,” he explained. Feng added, “Our strategy worked perfectly, and I performed better than expected. Thinking about the win still gives me goosebumps.” Meanwhile, Huang secured the third match, pushing Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team closer to victory. He mentioned the team had aimed for gold after previously winning silver. Their familiarity with the Chinese players helped them plan an effective strategy.

Although Kao faced difficulties and lost both matches, he expressed deep gratitude. Tears came as he thanked his teammates for their support. Kao said, “My performance wasn’t good, but the team’s strength made my dream come true.” Coach Chu Yen-hui praised Feng’s mental toughness throughout the final. He shared how Feng denied being nervous even before the high-pressure fifth match. Chu emphasized that skill levels were close, but the stronger mindset led to victory.

The coach also highlighted the team’s balanced strength and mutual trust during the entire tournament. He believes that Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team’s gold medal win was well-deserved. Feng’s timely contributions made all the difference. Overall, Taiwan’s Men’s Table Tennis Team showcased remarkable resilience, skill, and unity. Their historic gold medal signals a new chapter in Taiwan’s sports achievements. Fans and players alike celebrated this memorable triumph over China.
