Mongolia and Tajikistan Strengthen Mutually Beneficial Partnership

Date:

On July 24, 2025, Mongolia’s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa met with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon to strengthen their countries’ ties. During the official talks, the two leaders exchanged views on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation. They also discussed regional and global issues of shared interest.

President Rahmon congratulated President Khurelsukh on Mongolia’s first State Visit since diplomatic relations began in 1992. The Presidents agreed that this visit marks a key moment for elevating their traditional friendly ties. They emphasized expanding practical cooperation to foster a mutually beneficial partnership.

President Khurelsukh recalled that President Rahmon’s first visit to Mongolia in 2009 laid the groundwork for their relationship. He stressed Mongolia’s commitment to strengthening connections with Central Asian nations, including Tajikistan. Both leaders reviewed 30 years of progress and expressed determination to enrich their partnership further.

The talks highlighted several priority sectors, such as economy, trade, agriculture, green development, digital transformation, culture, education, and tourism. Both sides pledged to align these efforts with Mongolia’s “Vision-2050” and Tajikistan’s “National Development Strategy-2030.” They also agreed to remove transportation and logistics barriers and develop shorter transport corridors to improve regional connectivity.

They believe this event will strengthen ties between entrepreneurs from both countries. In addition, they plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between their Ministries of Energy to promote cooperation in renewable energy, especially hydropower.

Expert consultations and joint projects will follow. Both leaders agreed that a cultural and artistic performance in Dushanbe will build trust and deepen cultural and humanitarian cooperation. They also aim to boost collaboration in education, sports, and youth exchanges.

On the international stage, Mongolia and Tajikistan committed to enhanced cooperation through the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other forums. President Khurelsukh noted Tajikistan’s early involvement in the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries. Finally, Mongolia invited Tajikistan to participate at the highest level in the 2026 UNCCD COP17 conference in Ulaanbaatar.

They also agreed to align Mongolia’s “Billions of Trees” and “Food Safety and Security” movements with Tajikistan’s “Two Billion Seedlings” and “Sustainable Agriculture Development Program-2030.” This alignment will advance sustainable development for both nations.
