Toyota Global Sales Reach New Record with 5.54 Million Vehicles Sold

Toyota global sales hit a record high in the first half of 2025, showing remarkable growth across major markets. The company sold 5.54 million vehicles worldwide, a 7.4 percent increase compared to last year. Therefore, this strong performance positions Toyota as the likely top-selling automaker globally for the sixth year in a row.

This growth reflects increasing demand for hybrid models and a significant rebound in Japan’s domestic market. Specifically, in Japan, Toyota, along with Daihatsu and Hino, delivered 1.05 million units, marking a 27.4 percent increase. Consequently, these results underscore Toyota’s strategic focus on fuel efficiency and environmental performance.

Meanwhile, Toyota global sales outside Japan also showed strength. The automaker sold 4.5 million vehicles overseas, up 3.6 percent from the same period last year. Thus, this robust demand helped reinforce its global market dominance.

In the United States, Toyota, including its luxury Lexus brand, sold 1.24 million vehicles. That figure reflects a 4.2 percent rise. Initially, consumer fears of a 25 percent tariff on Japanese vehicles earlier this year briefly pushed up demand. However, a new agreement between the U.S. and Japan reduced that tariff to 15 percent, thereby calming market concerns.

In China, Toyota global sales grew by 6.8 percent, totaling 837,744 units. This rise was supported by targeted promotions and government-linked subsidies. Although the Chinese market remains highly competitive, Toyota’s diverse lineup helped the brand maintain a stable presence.

In June alone, Toyota sold 937,246 vehicles globally, up 2.7 percent from a year ago. Notably, Daihatsu’s monthly sales jumped 22.4 percent to 60,241 units. This recovery follows a downturn caused by previous certification issues, which the brand has now overcome.

Overall, Toyota global sales continue to benefit from hybrid-focused innovation and an agile market strategy. The company adapts quickly to consumer needs and policy shifts. As a result, with steady sales in major markets, Toyota remains a global leader in automotive performance.

Looking ahead, Toyota plans to expand its hybrid offerings and strengthen its international presence. Ultimately, the company remains committed to long-term growth, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
