Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav has launched a strong initiative to protect the Bogd Khaan Palace. His directive emphasizes the urgent need to safeguard Mongolia’s historical and cultural treasures. Zandanshatar urges authorities to take immediate action. He stresses that cultural heritage must stay intact for future generations. According to him, officials cannot delay or ignore their responsibility to protect national history.
He directs legal experts to examine a city decree that transferred 700 square meters near the Khuren Ordon in Khan-Uul District to private use. Zandanshatar demands a full legal review of that land transfer. He insists on holding any violators accountable under the law. Construction on that land must stop during the legal review. The Prime Minister cites the General Administrative Law, which allows a suspension of permits while ownership questions are investigated.
He also demands a proposal to upgrade the Bogd Khaan Summer Palace to full state protection. This step, based on Mongolia’s Cultural Heritage Law, would give the site stronger legal safeguards. To further protect the Bogd Khaan Palace, the Prime Minister calls for new building height limits. These limits would preserve the visual and historical character of the Khuren Ordon.
In addition, he orders cultural officials to define protection zones around key heritage sites. They must also prepare rescue and restoration plans for any at-risk monuments. The Bogd Khaan’s Palace remains one of Mongolia’s most important landmarks. It belonged to the VIII Bogd Jetsundamba Khutugtu. He was the last monarch of Mongolia and a leader of the revolution that secured national independence.
The government protected the site in past decades. However, the land privatization near the palace weakened those efforts. Zandanshatar says that allowing construction shows a failure to protect national heritage.He vows not to repeat that mistake. By acting now, he hopes to protect the Bogd Khaan Palace and preserve the nation’s identity.
