Golden Song Success Inspires Ejae’s Grammy Hopes

Date:

Korean American singer-songwriter Ejae has achieved remarkable Golden song success after years of persistence in the music industry. At 33, the artist, born Kim Eun-jae, once dreamed of debuting as a K-pop idol after a decade of training at SM Entertainment. That debut never came, but her journey took a new direction that reshaped her career.

Instead of leaving music, Ejae turned to songwriting, eventually co-writing “Golden,” the anthem from the animated film “KPop Demon Hunters.” The track achieved Golden song success, topping the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Global 200, and the UK Official Singles Chart. It became the first K-pop track since 2012 to reach No. 1 in the UK.

Her path began with years of dance and vocal training, learning how music translates to performance. Leaving SM Entertainment in 2011, she studied at New York University and explored underground music through SoundCloud. Writing songs for other artists soon followed, with her first major hit being Red Velvet’s “Psycho” in 2019.

The “KPop Demon Hunters” project introduced her to the character Rumi, for whom she became the singing voice. Ejae related to Rumi’s perfectionism and determination, channeling those traits into “Golden.” The song’s message focuses on perseverance and self-belief, resonating with audiences worldwide.

Ejae also contributed “Hunter’s Mantra” to the soundtrack, blending traditional Korean elements like pansori with modern pop. She aimed to bring cultural heritage into a global platform, showcasing Korea’s rich musical identity.

Her ambitions now center on winning a Grammy, which she views as both personal achievement and representation for Asian American women in pop music. She hopes her story inspires others facing doubt to continue pursuing their passions.

Ejae believes Golden song success is proof that persistence, authenticity, and creative courage can lead to extraordinary outcomes. She continues writing and performing, committed to using her music as a message of hope.
