Mongolian boxers are eagerly preparing for the AIBA World Boxing Championships. The event will take place in Liverpool, UK, from September 4 to 14, 2025. Interestingly, this year marks the first time that men’s and women’s competitions will happen together at the same venue. Consequently, the atmosphere promises to be exciting and inclusive for everyone involved.
Under the guidance of Head Coach J. Enkhtur and coaches O. Batkhuu and J. Erkin, Mongolia plans to send a strong team. So far, the lineup consists of five men and five women, showing the depth of Mongolian boxing talent. On the men’s side, A. Battulga (50 kg), Kh. Bilguunsaihan (55 kg), and O. Byamba-Erdene (70 kg) have secured spots. Meanwhile, the women’s team includes L. Altantsetseg (48 kg), B. Mungunsaran (51 kg), O. Yesugen (54 kg), M. Enkhjargal (57 kg), and M. Namuun (60 kg).
However, the team is not complete yet. On August 20, a qualifying bout will determine who will represent Mongolia in the men’s 60 kg and 65 kg divisions. Therefore, the winners will join the team competing in Liverpool. This final step will add extra excitement for Mongolian boxing fans.
Historically, Mongolian boxers have performed strongly on the world stage. They have won a total of 16 medals at senior World Championships. In fact, Mongolia’s first medal came in 1982 when R. Otgonbayar earned silver in the 57 kg category. Since then, Mongolian boxers have continuously proven their skill. For example, B. Chinzorig won silver and B. Misheelt earned bronze in recent championships.
Moreover, legendary figures such as P. Serdamba and U. Munkh-Erdene helped build Mongolia’s boxing reputation. Serdamba won gold in Milan 2009 and bronze in Baku 2011. Likewise, Munkh-Erdene won bronze medals in Milan 2009 and Almaty 2013. Their achievements inspire today’s Mongolian boxers.
