Pyongyang to Host 9th April Spring People’s Art Festival Honoring Kim Il Sung

Date:

North Korea will hold the 9th April Spring People’s Art Festival in the capital city of Pyongyang from April 10 to 17 to commemorate the 113th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, the country’s founding leader.

The festival is described by state organizers as a major political and artistic celebration aimed at paying tribute to Kim Il Sung’s revolutionary legacy. It is expected to showcase performances that reflect the Korean people’s “noble loyalty and moral obligation,” as well as their dedication to continuing his work under the current leadership of Kim Jong Un.

Participants from across the country, including members of local institutions, industrial complexes, farms, and public service units, will perform in a variety of group categories. These include city and county-level complex art groups, institutional troupes, industrial establishment performers, and farm-based ensembles.

Events and performances will be staged in some of Pyongyang’s most iconic cultural venues, such as the People’s Palace of Culture, Pyongyang Grand Theatre, and the Central Youth Hall.

The April Spring People’s Art Festival has traditionally been used by the state as a platform to reinforce national unity and showcase state-approved cultural expression through music, dance, and theatrical performances. It is also a key opportunity for the regime to promote its official narratives and glorify the Kim family leadership.
