Taiwan, Japan Urge Stronger Ties in AI and Defense

Date:

President Lai Ching-te urged deeper cooperation between Taiwan and Japan. He highlighted defense, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence as key areas for future collaboration. During a meeting with the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party’s Youth Division, he emphasized the importance of shared democratic values.

Lai noted that both countries must remain trusted regional partners as authoritarian powers expand their influence. He thanked the Japanese government for speaking up on the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait. He especially appreciated Japan’s consistent message at global forums supporting cross-strait stability.

Throughout the meeting, Lai stressed the need to strengthen both industrial and security ties. He said closer cooperation could boost economic resilience. At the same time, it would create more opportunities for both nations to thrive together.

He also praised the Youth Division for encouraging dialogue between young political leaders. These exchanges, he said, help promote mutual understanding and long-term friendship. He acknowledged Japan’s ongoing support during difficult times for Taiwan.

Nakasone Yasutaka, who led the Japanese delegation, echoed Lai’s message. He said Taiwan and Japan must show determination in defending peace. He emphasized unity, strength, and cooperation as vital in maintaining regional security. As trusted regional partners, both countries play a central role in safeguarding East Asia’s stability.

Nakasone also mentioned areas of mutual strength. He pointed to artificial intelligence and next-generation communication technology as key sectors. He said increased collaboration in these fields would enhance competitiveness for both nations.

The leaders agreed that continued partnership is essential in facing modern challenges. They discussed ways to build stronger ties not just in defense, but also in technology and innovation. Both sides committed to a future where they act as trusted regional partners, ready to support each other politically and economically.

By aligning their efforts, Taiwan and Japan aim to shape a more secure and forward-looking region. Their cooperation reflects a deeper commitment to democracy, innovation, and peace. This growing partnership could also serve as a model for other democratic nations in the region.

As new global threats emerge, the Taiwan-Japan alliance remains strong and adaptive. Together, they hope to write a new chapter in regional collaboration—one grounded in values, trust, and shared goals.
