Hualien County Government recently rehired Ming Liang-chen, the former head of the Department of Civil Affairs. This decision has caused significant controversy. Prosecutors claim Ming deleted important cellphone messages related to the case. They also cited his influence over witnesses and co-defendants when requesting bail. In May, Ming was released on NT$500,000 bail and stepped down from his position on May 15.
