China’s space program announced four major missions for 2026, signaling an ambitious push in human spaceflight and orbital research. The announcement highlights China’s continuing investment in long-duration space operations and technological advancement.
The missions include the Tianzhou-10 cargo flight, Shenzhou-22 and Shenzhou-23 crewed missions, and the Mengzhou-1 spacecraft test. Notably, one taikonaut from the Shenzhou-22 mission will remain in orbit for more than a year to conduct long-term experiments. This milestone underscores China’s focus on extended human presence in space.
According to China’s Manned Space Agency, the SZ-22 and SZ-23 missions will launch from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China’s Gansu Province. Both crewed missions will involve spacewalks, airlock operations for cargo, and technology demonstrations aboard the Tiangong space station. These activities will contribute to ongoing space science research and station operations.
The Mengzhou-1 mission will launch from Wenchang using the Long March 10A rocket for the first time. The uncrewed test flight will validate the next-generation crewed spacecraft. Experts note that this mission represents a critical step in China’s plans for advanced spacecraft development and human spaceflight capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Tianzhou-10 cargo spacecraft will deliver supplies, extravehicular suits, maintenance parts, and propellant to support station operations. It will also transport various payloads and research samples, maintaining the continuity of China’s orbital science program.
China’s Manned Space Agency has invited the public to submit design proposals for the annual mission emblem. Submissions are open to individuals, organizations, and entities supporting China’s crewed space program. Officials emphasized that the initiative aims to engage the public and foster a sense of national pride in China’s space achievements.
Analysts say these missions highlight China’s long-term ambitions in human spaceflight. They strengthen international visibility and demonstrate technological prowess. Moreover, the year-long Shenzhou-22 mission will provide valuable data on human adaptation to extended periods in microgravity.
