China Defends Covid-19 Origins Research in White Paper

Date:

China released a detailed white paper on Wednesday defending its efforts in Covid-19 origins research and global pandemic cooperation. The State Council Information Office issued the paper titled “Covid-19 Prevention, Control and Origins Tracing: China’s Actions and Stance.” This document contains three main chapters, excluding its preface and conclusion. Each chapter covers China’s virus origin studies, its global contributions, and criticism of the US pandemic response. The paper clearly outlines China’s position on scientific research and transparency.

China emphasized its dedication to joint international Covid-19 origins research involving both Chinese and foreign scientists. Officials highlighted research areas such as clinical, molecular, and environmental epidemiology. Moreover, China collaborated closely with the World Health Organization during the early stages of the pandemic. The government stressed its role in leading research and promoting data sharing. According to the white paper, these actions show China’s sense of global responsibility.

The white paper referenced the joint WHO-China study on the virus origins that occurred in Wuhan. This investigation included cold-chain studies, animal host tracing, and molecular data analysis. Researchers concluded that a Wuhan lab leak appeared extremely unlikely. Additionally, the paper claimed Wuhan was not the natural origin of SARS-CoV-2. China said this Covid-19 origins research helped form a global model for similar scientific investigations.

China also detailed how it aided international efforts during the pandemic’s most critical periods. It said it reported the outbreak to the WHO and shared the virus’s genome quickly. Moreover, China invited WHO expert teams to conduct joint research. Officials also noted that China sent medical supplies and offered technical support to over 100 countries. According to the paper, these contributions highlight its commitment to international health solidarity.

In contrast, the white paper strongly criticized the United States for politicizing the origins debate. Chinese officials accused the US of avoiding accountability for its own Covid-19 failures. They argued that US actions disrupted global collaboration and public health governance. The document also cited research suggesting the virus may have emerged in the US earlier than reported. Therefore, China called for the US to accept international Covid-19 origins research on its own territory.

Chinese officials warned against politicizing scientific inquiries into infectious diseases. They argued that disinformation and blame games threaten public health worldwide. Furthermore, they stressed the danger of using science for geopolitical advantage. The white paper urged nations to unite rather than divide over pandemic narratives. China reaffirmed its willingness to work with all countries on public health matters.

In closing, the paper emphasized China’s dedication to preventing future pandemics. Authorities promised to continue transparent Covid-19 origins research and improve global health systems. The government called on all nations to build a shared future based on cooperation. They warned that misinformation and politicization will only worsen global vulnerabilities. China concluded by pledging more contributions to public health and global disease prevention.
