China Hosts International Women’s Summit in Beijing

Date:

China will host the global women summit in Beijing to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women. The summit highlights China’s commitment to gender equality and the development of women. It will also showcase China’s achievements in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

During a press briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced the upcoming international women’s summit. He spoke following the release of a white paper titled “China’s Achievements in Women’s Well-Rounded Development in the New Era” by the State Council Information Office. The paper highlights China’s contributions to women’s development, which will be showcased at the international women’s summit.

Guo noted that 30 years ago, the UN Fourth World Conference on Women took place in Beijing. To commemorate the event, China and UN Women co-hosted a global women summit at the UN Headquarters in New York a decade ago. Five years ago, President Xi Jinping proposed holding another global women summit in 2025.

Guo emphasized that only five years remain to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He said the global cause of women’s development faces both challenges and opportunities. China promotes gender equality not only as an advocate but also as an active participant. This commitment will be shown at the summit.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Guo said, women’s causes have flourished, achieving historic results. The socialist path of women’s development with Chinese characteristics has shown vitality and unique advantages. China will present these achievements at the global women summit.

The white paper highlights China’s key accomplishments in advancing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. It introduces principles and innovative practices for promoting gender equality. The document also celebrates the inspiring spirit of Chinese women and shares China’s experience, which will inform summit discussions.

Guo stressed that China is willing to collaborate with countries worldwide to advance women’s development. The upcoming global women summit aims to write a new chapter in international efforts toward gender equality and empowerment.

Experts say the summit will provide a platform for sharing policies, strategies, and best practices. The event also highlights China’s growing role in global gender equality initiatives. Looking ahead, the summit could strengthen international cooperation and advance sustainable development goals.

Overall, the global women summit underscores China’s leadership in promoting women’s rights. It also highlights the continued importance of international collaboration.
