Business Cooperation Deepens at China-Russia Expo in Harbin

Date:

The 10th China-Russia Expo concluded Thursday in Harbin, highlighting deepening business cooperation between the two countries. Nearly 300 exhibitors and a 5,000-member Russian procurement delegation attended the five-day event. Over 1,500 enterprises from 46 countries and regions filled a 55,000-square-meter exhibition area. The expo firmly cemented its role as the largest bilateral business cooperation platform.

Russian Export Center held 104 matchmaking sessions on the first day alone. Its representatives met 43 Chinese companies in targeted trade negotiations during the fair. Potential cooperation reached 3.9 billion rubles, roughly 55 million U.S. dollars. Chief representative Evgeny Bazhov credited China’s visa-free policy for smoother travel. Consequently, many Russian business delegates attended the expo for the very first time.

Meanwhile, more than 500 new technologies and products made their debut at the event. Chinese firm CNBM Jiamusi displayed a solar panel material tailored for Russian conditions. The product generates electricity even under dim exhibition hall lighting. It suits high-latitude markets with limited sunlight and cold climates. Another company, New Nanfeng Thermo & Comfort, presented fuel-liquid heating systems. Its heaters have already reached Russia through Chinese automakers like Foton and BAIC. The company now aims to connect directly with Russian vehicle manufacturers.

Russian state conglomerate Rostec also showcased a range of advanced products. Director Victor Kladov noted the Ka-32 helicopter already serves Chinese police and fire departments. Moreover, Rostec’s radio-electronic devices and electric buses now incorporate Chinese components. Kladov emphasized that cooperation has evolved beyond simple trade into deep joint research and collaborative production.

Trade figures underscore the growing business cooperation. Bilateral trade reached 227.9 billion dollars in 2025, exceeding 200 billion for a third consecutive year. First-quarter 2026 data showed trade rising 14.7 percent to 61.2 billion dollars. Chinese exports surged 22 percent while imports from Russia increased 9 percent. Furthermore, machinery, electronics, and high-tech goods now claim a larger trade share.

Emerging sectors also attracted strong interest. Participants explored smart wearables, cross-border e-commerce, and cultural tourism integration. Russian tourist agency Kutuzov-na-Murmane promoted customized Arctic tours to Chinese visitors. About 40,000 Chinese tourists visit Murmansk annually, a number that could triple in coming years. Reciprocal visa exemptions will likely trigger a travel boom, the agency’s director Viktor Kutuzov predicted.

Overall, the expo demonstrated robust business cooperation from traditional energy to innovative consumer technology. Both sides plan further integration of resources, industries, and markets. The next steps include continued reciprocal visits and deeper collaboration in advanced manufacturing.
