China Urges BRICS Unity as Middle East Crisis Deepens

Date:

Special Envoy Zhai Jun led a Chinese delegation to the BRICS Middle East meeting in New Delhi. The gathering ran from Thursday to Friday at the Indian capital. Zhai stated that the Middle East situation has reached a critical juncture. A fragile ceasefire currently holds across parts of the region. Regional security continues to deteriorate despite diplomatic efforts. The humanitarian situation remains grave for millions of civilians.

This BRICS Middle East meeting addressed several urgent regional concerns. Zhai called on BRICS countries to adhere to independence in their foreign policies. They must uphold justice and morality when dealing with regional actors. Building further consensus among member states remains a priority. Pooling efforts will help inject positive and stable momentum. Therefore, the Middle East situation requires coordinated BRICS action.

Participants held in depth exchanges on key issues during the sessions. They expressed serious concern over escalating regional tensions. All members emphasized respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Independence of each country in the region must remain protected. Consequently, they called for resolving differences through political and diplomatic means. Military solutions will only worsen the Middle East situation further.

The participants also agreed to continue consultations on regional issues. China will host the next BRICS chairmanship starting next year. India issued a Chair’s Statement after the meeting concluded. The statement reflected the broad consensus reached during both days.

On the sidelines of this BRICS Middle East meeting, Zhai held separate bilateral talks. He met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Borisenko Georgy for discussions. He also met with Assistant to the Iranian foreign minister Mehdi Shoushtari. Both meetings focused on exchanging views about the current regional situation.

Future BRICS coordination on Middle East issues will likely intensify. China’s upcoming chairmanship provides an opportunity for deeper engagement. All member states share an interest in regional stability and security. The next meeting will probably take place in China next year. Participants expect continued dialogue on the fragile ceasefire and humanitarian access.
