China’s Sudirman Cup Title Defense Starts With 5-0 Victory

China’s Sudirman Cup title defense began in dominating fashion with a 5-0 win over Algeria on Sunday. From the start, China’s top players controlled every match at the 2025 Sudirman Cup. World No. 1 mixed doubles team Jiang Zhengbang and Wei Yaxin led the way impressively. They quickly beat Koceila Mammeri and Tanina Violettle Mammeri 21-11, 21-13 to open the tie. Wei later said it felt exciting to debut during China’s Sudirman Cup title defense.

After that strong start, China’s momentum only grew during the opening matches. Wang Zhiyi, the world’s No. 2 women’s singles player, won her match without much trouble. Meanwhile, top-ranked men’s singles star Shi Yuqi secured another point with a 2-0 victory. Shi expressed pride in maintaining his level across five consecutive Sudirman Cup tournaments. He credited the home crowd’s energy as crucial to China’s Sudirman Cup title defense efforts.

China’s winning streak continued in the doubles events to complete the clean sweep. Olympic champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan sealed another point in the women’s doubles. Meanwhile, men’s doubles newcomers Chen Boyang and Liu Yi showed no nerves, finishing off Algeria with a 2-0 win. Their convincing performances made it clear that China’s Sudirman Cup title defense remains serious business. By the end of the day, China and Thailand topped Group A after Thailand blanked Hong Kong, China 5-0.

In other groups, South Korea dominated Czechia with a strong 4-1 victory. Chinese Taipei also handled Canada smoothly with another 4-1 result in Group B. Denmark overpowered India 4-1 in Group D, while Indonesia crushed England with a 5-0 scoreline. The 2025 Sudirman Cup, badminton’s premier mixed-team event, will run through May 4. Fans worldwide eagerly watch every round as powerhouses clash for ultimate team glory.
