Communist Party of China Reports Over 101 Million Members Heading Into 2026

Date:

China’s Communist Party reported total Party membership reached more than 101.28 million by the end of 2025. The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee released the figures Tuesday ahead of the Party’s 105th anniversary. Furthermore, membership grew by nearly 1.01 million members during 2025, representing a 1 percent annual increase. Consequently, the report highlights continued steady expansion despite the Party’s already massive existing membership base.

Over 2.086 million new members joined the Party during 2025 according to the official data. Among new recruits, 51.4 percent came from frontline production and work positions nationwide. Additionally, 54.8 percent held junior college diplomas or higher educational qualifications. Notably, 84 percent of new members were aged 35 or younger, signaling continued youth recruitment success.

Party membership composition has also continued shifting toward higher educational attainment over recent years. By the end of 2025, approximately 59.77 million members held junior college degrees or above. That figure represents 59 percent of total membership, up 1.4 percentage points from the previous year. Moreover, female membership reached 31.91 million, accounting for 31.5 percent of the overall total.

Ethnic minority representation within the Party stood at 7.8 percent, totaling roughly 7.88 million members. Meanwhile, workers and farmers remain the Party’s largest occupational group, comprising 32.4 percent of total membership. Furthermore, Party training programs expanded significantly, with participation rising 3.7 percent compared to the previous year. The Party also honored 108,000 advanced primary-level organizations and 583,000 outstanding members during 2025.

Primary-level Party infrastructure also expanded considerably throughout the year under review. China now counts 314,000 primary-level Party committees nationwide, an increase of 8,000 from 2024. Additionally, village-level Party organizations strengthened further, with nearly 483,000 village Party branch secretaries now in place. Of those, 56.5 percent held junior college degrees or above, reflecting significant educational improvement at the grassroots level. Going forward, these structural investments suggest the Party intends to deepen its organizational reach across rural and urban China alike.
