Danjiang Bridge Events Draw Over 150,000 People

Date:

Large crowds attended the Danjiang Bridge events over the past weekend. The Highway Bureau reported more than 150,000 people participated. A concert on Saturday and a picnic on Sunday drove these numbers. Consequently, these Danjiang Bridge events marked the third week of celebrations. The festival began on April 18 near the soon-to-open bridge. Officials organized the arts festival ahead of the official opening. The bridge will open to traffic on Tuesday next week.

Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai attended the picnic event yesterday. He spoke with visitors and vendors at the celebration site. Officials also briefed him on preparations for the opening ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Saturday this week. Chen stated that the bridge will improve traffic convenience significantly. Furthermore, it will boost tourism between Tamsui and Bali districts. The northern coast will also benefit from better access. Therefore, these Danjiang Bridge events served both celebratory and promotional purposes.

The arts festival included runs and walks in earlier weeks. Each week built momentum toward the grand opening. The weekend concert alone drew tens of thousands of attendees. Meanwhile, the picnic provided a family-friendly atmosphere on the bridge. People could stand on the new structure before traffic begins. This rare access created a festive mood among locals. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications released the attendance figures. Consequently, the Danjiang Bridge events achieved their goal of public engagement.

Chen Shih-kai highlighted the bridge’s economic impact during his visit. He noted that Tamsui and Bali will see more visitors. Local businesses near both districts expect a significant revenue increase. The bridge spans a key waterway and reduces travel time. Previously, drivers needed long detours around the river. Now, a direct connection will save about 30 minutes. The Danjiang Bridge events allowed residents to experience this convenience early. Many people took photos and enjoyed the scenic views.

Preparations for the official opening ceremony continue this week. Workers are completing final safety checks and signage installation. The opening ceremony on Saturday will feature additional cultural performances. After that, the bridge will open to vehicles on Tuesday. Officials expect heavy traffic during the first few days. Police will manage flow and provide guidance to drivers. The Danjiang Bridge events have successfully generated public excitement. Transportation authorities thank the 150,000 participants for their enthusiasm. Looking ahead, the bridge will become a new landmark for northern Taiwan. Tourists will likely add it to their travel itineraries. Local officials plan to promote the area as an integrated destination. Thus, these celebrations mark the beginning of a new transportation era.
