Farglory Ocean Park will kick off its exciting “mermaid carnival” in April, according to a recent announcement. The park hosted a press conference Thursday, detailing its plans for a live mermaid show. The show will raise awareness about marine conservation, with a portion of the revenue supporting the production of the Public Television Service’s documentary, “Shipwrecks Taiwan.”
As part of the celebration, Farglory Ocean Park will collaborate with the Taiwan Freediving Development Association and Mermaid Federation International for a special event. From May 24-25, the park will hold a mermaid dance competition, which will include participants from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. The competition will feature individual and team categories for adults, as well as categories for children and teenagers.
In addition to the competition, Farglory Ocean Park will offer a “little mermaid experience” activity, aimed at engaging younger visitors. Wu Ping-yu, the secretary general of the Taiwan Freediving Development Association, expressed hopes that the event would raise Taiwan’s mermaid swimming profile and promote the sport to a wider audience.
Teng Chun-jen, the business director of Farglory Ocean Park, shared the park’s impressive attendance rates. On the Feb. 28 holiday, visitor attendance reached 70%. Teng also revealed that reservations for the upcoming Tomb Sweeping Festival holiday have exceeded 70% of the park’s capacity.
The park invested over NT$10 million (US$310,227) in upgrading its facilities, dining services, and hardware last year. These improvements are aimed at enhancing the overall visitor experience. With a goal of attracting 800,000 visitors annually, Farglory Ocean Park aims for NT$700 million in revenue.
This initiative underscores the park’s commitment to conservation while also providing family-friendly entertainment and activities.
