Guam Governor Boosts Guam-Taiwan Cooperation in Taiwan Visit

Date:

Guam Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero has arrived in Taiwan to boost Guam-Taiwan cooperation during a week-long visit. This trip marks her first visit to Taiwan since assuming office in 2019. She leads a delegation focused on deepening the ties between Guam and Taiwan.

Firstly, Governor Guerrero will meet with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te. This meeting is a crucial step to enhance Guam-Taiwan cooperation. Moreover, she will attend banquets hosted by President Lai and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. These events offer opportunities to discuss shared goals and mutual interests.

In addition, the delegation plans to hold talks with the Ministry of Transportation. They will also engage with city mayors and key representatives from sectors like tourism, medicine, agriculture, and fisheries. These meetings aim to explore potential collaborations that benefit both parties. Furthermore, the delegation will attend the Taipei Tourism Exposition, where Guam and Taiwan can showcase their cultural and economic strengths.

Taiwan and Guam share more than just political ties; they have common Austronesian cultural roots. Both are democratic partners with strong and mutually beneficial relationships. Therefore, Governor Guerrero’s visit seeks to build upon this foundation and further enhance Guam-Taiwan cooperation.

Importantly, Governor Guerrero is Guam’s ninth governor and the first woman to hold this position. She previously welcomed President Lai during his South Pacific tour in December. This visit continues the momentum in Guam-Taiwan cooperation.

Throughout the trip, Governor Guerrero emphasizes the importance of cooperation to improve regional development. Her leadership focuses on building bridges in tourism, healthcare, and agriculture. These sectors hold great promise for both Guam and Taiwan.

To sum up, Guam Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero’s visit to Taiwan highlights a clear commitment to advancing Guam-Taiwan cooperation. Through a series of strategic meetings and cultural exchanges, the trip strengthens an already close partnership.

As both sides continue to work together, they expect to unlock new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
